Cold Brew Tea

Have you ever tried cold brewing tea? It's pretty easy--here's how we do it at Shang Tea: get a larger sized empty tea bag (preferably unbleached), fill it with 10 to 15 grams (approximately 3 to 4 tablespoons) of ground loose leaf Shang Tea (any of Shang's teas will work, but we recommend a stronger tea, like an agedgreenwu-long, or red tea), tie the bag, put the bag in a pitcher, add approximately 2 cups of filtered water that had just come to a boil, and steep for 2 to 3 minutes.  Then add approximately 1.5 liters of room temperature filtered water, put the pitcher in a refrigerator for at least 5 hours, and enjoy!

You can also skip the addition of hot water and instead add 2 liters of room temperature filtered water to the tea and then put the pitcher in a refrigerator for at least 8 hours. Whichever option you decide to choose, the tea will be potent, so we recommend diluting the tea with filtered water before drinking, based upon how strong you want the tea.

Once the pitcher gets low, depending on which tea is utilized, you may be able to refill the pitcher with water and re-steep the tea at least 1 or 2 more times. The cold brew process helps draw out the natural sweetness of the tea and allows the tea to have an even smoother body than before. Get a bag of Shang’s tea in the shop or on this website and try cold brewing for yourself!
